ShortBookandScribes #BookReview – Coop Chaos: Morning Mystery by Alyson Oliver and Derek Maguire #ChildrensBooks

I’m so pleased to be sharing my thoughts about Coop Chaos: Morning Mystery by Alyson Oliver and Derek Maguire today. My thanks to Alyson for sending me a copy of the book for review purposes.

Meet Daisy, Lily, Rose, Buttercup, Bluebell, and Poppy. These quirky hens are a delight to know. Each with their own unique character, they will stimulate the imagination of children and encourage them to learn about friendship and behaviour. Children and adults will delight in the Coop Chaos book series by Alyson Oliver and Derek Maguire. In this book, Morning Mystery, the hens wake-up and discover something unusual. What is it? What is happening? The hens look to clever Poppy for an answer; however, will mischievous Daisy be the first to solve the mystery?

Coop Chaos: Morning Mystery is a fun idea and lovely to read to or with children. I read it with my six year old son and he really enjoyed it.

This is the first Coop Chaos story, based around the author’s observations of her own hens. In the story we have Buttercup, Bluebell, Daisy, Poppy, Lilly and Rose. At the beginning of the book there is a Meet the Hens section and all the time we were reading the story my son was flicking back and forth to see which one was which. We particularly liked Poppy, the intelligent one with her glasses!

The mystery in question is when the hens find that some white, fluffy stuff has fallen outside their coop. None of them knows what it is and Daisy, the naughty hen, goes dashing out and gets stuck in it. It’s lovely that all the hens have their own personalities and that really came through in the story, accompanied by some delightful illustrations by Derek Maguire. It was nice to be able to easily pick out which hen was which in the drawings, which also helped to bring the story to life.

This is a sweet and likeable story and it will be good to see what the hens get up to next. I’m sure there are plenty more capers for them to get involved in.
